Flea Control - Keep Your Kitty Flea Free!
Cats are perhaps the most independent of all pets. Even with that independence, they
still need us to feed them and to take care of them when they are in discomfort or ill.
Cats get fleas; it is inevitable. If you have outdoor cats, they will at one point in
their lives get fleas. That's where we, the cat owner, has to come to the rescue.
Fleas cannot only invade your cat’s fur, biting and causing them great discomfort;
they can also invade your home. They can bite humans as well as animals.
There are many treatments for fleas. You can visit your vet, pharmacy, department
store and even a grocery store to find numerous treatment options. But some are
better than others. So it is important that you take into consideration the merits of
each product before making a decision.
Are you one of those folks that has a whole menagerie of animals. Now the question
is, do they all live inside a house with you? If your answer is yes, then you've
probably dealt with the issue of flea control. This is especially problematic for those
pets that constantly go from outside to inside all day long. Man, are you guys leaving
yourselves opened to a full-time invasion of fleas. Lets see what options there are.
There are flea baths and bombs, collars and pills. It depends on which method you want
to use.
Lets face it, cats do not like water. Trying to give your cat a flea bath could turn
into a painful disaster if your cat is not declawed, and you may have to bathe the cat
more than once. But this is one possible treatment.
If you decide to use a flea bomb, it would take care of the problem in your home. Dont
forget that the cat would still be infested. So this would not be a complete solution.
Calling a professional company to come in and spray your house would solve the
problem, but there would be harsh chemicals sprayed in your home. Maybe not the best
choice. A flea collar is somewhat effective, but there are some professionals who
think that the fleas only stay away from the collar and go to the tail end of the cat.
Ouch!
A flea pill is prescribed by a vet and given to a cat once a month. These pills have
proven to be extremely effective in keeping cat’s flea free.
So what's best for your kitty? With so many choices it can be difficult to decide
which one to choose. Be sure to discuss these choices with your vet. You vet will be
very aware of the latest flea treatment programs and even what works best in your
specific location. Remember your kitty is counting on you. He does have fleas even if
you have not seen them. Be sure to keep your cat flea free!
